This post is 100% human written: *AI in the nonprofit world*
Disclosure: Austin Ai is an AI consulting company founded in 2020.
In the course of business, we naturally have many conversations about the use of AI in organizations. In Feb of 2026, our sense is that the people we talk to are rather polarized into two camps: all-in-ers who want to implement AI immediately, and all-out-ers who want to ignore it.
For whatever reason, maybe human nature, the middle ground seems to be less common. Caveat: our sample may be biased by the fact that we're approaching people to help them use AI. Still, we think the effect is there.
The all-in-ers have usually had a moment where they see how powerful AI technologies are and are becoming. They skew younger, more corporate, and/or have supervisors or boards who are very forward thinking.
The all-out-ers usually give a cold shoulder or blank stare and don't seem to want to have a conversation.
Getting to the point of the post: we unfortunately usually see non-profits fall into the latter category.
We think this is a shame because society may be missing a huge opportunity to help people. There are about 2 million nonprofits in the US, many of which are very small. I have heard anecdotally from several nonprofit owners that, without big budgets, they quickly become burdened by operations, taking the focus off of their mission.
We think it's important that society think more about HOW and WHERE AI is employed. We think people should start pondering use cases outside of corporate automations and vibe coding. Sometimes it seems like not many are.
So, though we are small-ish (though rapidly growing) and it might not make the biggest difference in the world, we would encourage any non-profit or B Corp owner interested in using or just talking about AI to contact us. Where possible, we will work on a probono or heavily discounted basis, if the mission is non-political in nature, to safely help.
This is neither a publicity stunt nor money making scheme, and any comments to contrary are unwelcome. Rather, it is a genuine offer and a small attempt to refocus this crazy AI ecosystem for a minute on an important and underserved area. Reducing the disparity of technological power across areas of society should make it more stable for all.
